PTNA Clinical Trials Day

Celebrating Advances in Paediatric Research

Posted: March 20, 2025

The Paediatric Trials Network Australia (PTNA) proudly participated in International Clinical Trials Day, commemorating the groundbreaking work that continues to improve health outcomes for children across Australia and worldwide.

This year’s event brought together researchers, clinicians, and families to highlight the critical importance of evidence-based medicine in paediatric care. Through collaborative efforts, PTNA members showcased recent advancements in clinical trial methodologies specifically designed for children’s unique physiological needs.

“Clinical trials are the foundation of medical progress, especially in paediatrics where we face distinct challenges,” said [PTNA Director’s name], Director of the Paediatric Trials Network Australia. “Today represents our commitment to developing better treatments for our youngest patients through rigorous research.”

The event featured presentations on:

  • Recent successes in paediatric drug development
  • Age-appropriate trial design considerations
  • Engaging children and families in the research process
  • Implementation of the WebSpirit data management system

Attendees also participated in workshops focused on overcoming barriers to paediatric clinical research and strategies for increasing trial participation rates among Australian families.

PTNA continues to advocate for increased investment in paediatric-specific research to ensure children receive treatments based on scientific evidence rather than extrapolated adult data.

Clinical Trials Day commemorates May 20, 1747, when James Lind began what is often considered the first randomized clinical trial, investigating treatments for scurvy aboard the HMS Salisbury.
